Trial, Error, Evolution?

What if there is a world, where every being’s life is divided into three segments? In the beginning it undergoes extensive training. Second it tries to find a way to apply its knowledge in the best possible way to find and fulfill a purpose. If it succeeds, it does what it does best until its death. If, however, it fails, it spends another 25 years creating offspring as an improved version of itself so that this offspring, or their children, might eventually succeed in finding a purpose and expiring with it. Is this the world we live in?
